During Holy Week, every year before Easter Sunday, penitents make a pilgrimage to Sanctuario Chimayo
. They come by foot, by motorcycle, lowriders, or bus. Truly, you feel as though you are in the presence of God when you are within the walls of the church. In the little room within the church, el pocito, make sure to get a palmful of Holy Dirt, which is said to have healing powers. I carry a small 35mm film canister filled with the dirt, just in case.
